Or something similar! And it’s all change at Eastfield Lodge as our major winter refurbishment gets underway this week. Following the modernisation of the Coach House building creating our fabulous new self-contained holiday apartments, it’s time to start on the main house.
Employing a local workforce to complete the renovations kept the business as close to Leyburn as possible. Henry and I already knew the builders, joiner, painters, plumbers, electricians and specialist tradesmen from the lengthy work to develop the Holt and Den flats. Not only was the work completed on time to the highest standard but we even enjoyed the banter and interaction when they were on site. Fuelled regularly with bacon and sausage butties, they also seemed keen to continue working with us, now on the big house.
The new owners are intent on creating a modern but welcoming feel to this traditional property. Bright colours, lush fabrics and practical mod cons will give Eastfield Lodge a new lease of life. This once family home has always been comfortable and homely, but the knocks and scrapes of its many visitors over its lifetime were becoming apparent. It was time to return this prominent Leyburn house to its former glory and established position on Saint Matthews Terrace.
Simply looking at what has already been achieved will give our future guests an idea of what they can expect.
The apartments will also be closed over the winter to avoid guests being woken by builders’ lorries and falling over skips and tools, but when the whole property relaunches in late March, we intend to hold another Open Day to invite the local community to see the completed work and what’s happened at this magnificent Victorian Guesthouse.
The Den and Holt Apartments provide a fabulous space in the Dales for a small family or individuals wishing to escape into the country but with the facilities of the Market Town close at hand. Dogs are welcome too and since opening earlier this year, they have been almost fully booked.
But we did have to go through this on the way to that however!
As the refurbishment progresses, we will keep you updated on the website but feel free to give us a call between December and April. Henry and I will be around and missing our guests so it would be great to hear from you. You could even get your break booked in after all these changes – we are predicting it’ll be popular when we open in the Spring!
